Dr. Melinda Beavers MD, PhD

Dr. Melinda Beavers MD, PhD

Dr Beavers earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Georgia, and is still a proud Georgia Dawg! Her medical degree and doctorate program are from the Medical College of Georgia, now part of Augusta University. The dual degree program split the typical medical program in half: two years of learning medical sciences in a classroom, PhD graduate research, and then two years of learning medicine in hospitals and offices. Dr Beavers' obtained a PhD in Physiology. Dr Beavers entered medical school with plans to study Geriatrics, but fell in love with the science of development; she never stops being amazed at the transition from 1 cell to a healthy baby  to a functional adult!

After graduating from college, and before starting medical school, Dr Beavers joined Teach For America. In addition to having some amazing and humbling experiences as a teacher in Warren County, NC, Dr Beavers met her amazing husband. During their 7-year stay in Augusta, GA for medical and graduate school, they grew their family with 3 wonderful children. She may be a little biased, but in her eyes they are amazing and unique. Dr Beavers understands first-hand what it feels like to fail at parenting, and to under-value her contribution to the family. It drove her to get a better understanding of behavior and its roots in a person's genetics and up-bringing. It also led her to appreciate the value of other experts, like child psychologists and therapists, who helped her find her confidence in parenting 3 very important people, and doing it in partnership with her superhero (their dad).

Dr Beavers fondly remembers days when she and her husband traveled most weekends; when she ran half marathons; when she played the piano and sang in the choir. She still makes time for music and exercise; it just looks a little different at this stage of life.  For now she is content with building her own independent pediatric practice - Bloom Pediatric Partners, in Angier - and sharing most of her free time with her family.
